My goal for this blog is to deliver information related to triathlon, endurance sports, fitness, health, and nutrition.
Since most athletes are in the middle of their season, I am going to focus on recovery for the next couple of weeks. When I was in my 20s and competing in triathlons I never worked recovery into my schedule. And to be totally honest I don’t know whether it would have made a difference. I was young and full of testosterone and could run through a brick wall and survive to live another day. But now that I’m 51 and have 27 Ironmans under my belt the body needs a ton of TLC. I’m currently training for the Santa Rosa Marathon on August 25th to try to get a spot for Boston in 2020. At this age, we lose some elasticity in our ligaments and tendons so stretching pre-run and post-run have become a staple. I never stretched before or had the need but now that I have little “niggles” pop up I find it very useful. I’ve also been dealing with some “nervie” pain in my lower legs I believe from my L4 and L5 so I’m starting today to use Floyd’s of Leadville CBD. I will report on my progress as I continue to get close to Santa Rosa. I’m running more than I have ever run before and it isn’t easy but I feel blessed to be able to run like this in my 50s after all the mileage accumulated on my poor legs. That is it for now, I welcome any questions or comments. Stay “bulletproof”!
